Dr. Nelles earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science (2003) and his Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in biology degree from the University of Waterloo (1999). He graduated from both programs on the Dean's honours list. He did his ocular disease externship at the Eye Centers of Florida splitting his time between clinics in: Fort Myers, Naples and Immokalee. The externship allowed Dr. Nelles to see extensive amounts of: cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. In 2001, he went on a mission trip to Puerto Escondido, Mexico where he and his classmates provided free eye care to approximately 500 people.In May 2005 he opened his own clinic in Tillsonburg (Dr. Gary Nelles - Optometrist). Prior to that he also worked in Aylmer and St. Thomas. Nobody could have predicted outgrowing the original clinic space in just five or six years but that's what happened! By 2010 Dr. Nelles was looking for a suitable new location and purchased the current property in 2013. After careful planning (and many late nights), CustomEYES Optometry was opened in May 2017.Dr. Nelles enjoys being an optometrist because everyday is different. He especially enjoys getting to know about you and your entire family.Dr. Nelles is a lifelong resident of the area. He grew up just south of Tillsonburg in Straffordville and attended both Annandale and Glendale High Schools. In his spare time he enjoys playing hockey, golfing, kayaking and sharing his woodworking journey on his YouTube channel.

Dr. Katrina Rohrer was born and raised in Port Rowan Ontario and attended the University of Guelph where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Bio-medical Science with a minor in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Science. She graduated in 2019 from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science with her Optometry degree. She has achieved awards of academic distinction and was on the Dean's Honours list for both degrees. Dr Rohrer is passionate about providing quality eye care to people of all ages. She participated in an eye care mission trip to Moldova where she was able to help provide eye exams and glasses to those in need. Watching people's reactions to seeing the world clearly again, or for the first time for some children, was so encouraging to her. Our vision is so valuable and Dr Rohrer strives every day to help her patients experience the best clarity and comfort that they are able to achieve. She has a special interest in ocular disease management and myopia control. In her spare time, Dr Rohrer enjoys going for walks with her dog, having snuggles with her cat, and helping her husband with his latest film projects. She also likes playing video games, especially the Legend of Zelda series.
